(Although I know the series mainly from the anime, I’m also using supplementary info from the light novels and manga. The novel series is longer and more detailed than the 78 episode anime, which covers up to novel 12; the 17 novels and 4 side story collections include more exposition and backstory and confirm some things that are only implied in the anime. The novels aren’t licensed in English though so my knowledge of them is limited to what fan translations or summaries I can find.)
Timeline: Near the beginning of season 2, episode 37 (corresponds to sometime in novel 12). Shuurei is now a Censorate official and has been sent to Ran Province on a mission to find the Emperor, who traveled there incognito, and bring him safely back to the capital. During this assignment, she and the friends she was working with went over a waterfall in a boat. The boat wrecked and she blacked out but wasn’t actually injured.
